
Social Media Coordinator
About the job
We are looking for a Social Media Coordinator that will work to highlight BK ROT’s compost work, daily operations, and the value of community composting. The person filling this role should continue to improve our social media presence, education/outreach around our compost and youth development work, and maintain a consistent social media and newsletter schedule. The ideal individual for this position will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a creative mind, experience with social media and graphic design, and strong time management skills.
This part-time position is hybrid and requires in person time on-site in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and is on average 8-10 hours a week, with ability to take on additional shifts. All BK ROT staff are required to complete four paid Personal and Professional Development opportunities per calendar year.
Pay starts at $20/hour.
This is an entry level position intended for young New Yorkers of color. As an environmental justice organization, we strongly encourage Brooklyn residents who are BIPOC, LGTBQIA+, and women to apply. We can provide training for preferred but not required skills.
General Responsibilities:

Manage BK ROT’s Content Output

Designing, creating, and posting content to social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

Posting an average of 3 times a week on Instagram

Scripting, filming, and editing educational and outreach focused video content

Creating and sending quarterly newsletters
-
Create graphics for programming needs (e.g. service marketing, fundraiser flyers, event flyers, etc.)

Communicate in an effective and timely manner with staff to fulfill filming and content requests

Attend and Lead Meetings

Weekly 1-1 planning meetings

Attending staff and department meetings
-
Monthly ILSR partnership meetings regarding grant-funded social media content

Collect and Analyze Social Media Metrics

Create quarterly reports on the metrics of our outreach content and growth on Instagram, Tiktok, and possibly more apps in the future.

Professional Qualifications

Passionate about environmental justice, local composting, and youth empowerment

Strong graphic design skills

Clear and effective verbal + written communication

Excellent time management

Ability to work independently and with others

Strong sense of flexibility + adaptability

Comfortable using Canva, Google Suite, + Social Media platforms such as Instagram and Tiktok
Preferred but not required:

Experience with video editing (Capcut, Tiktok editor, etc.)

A portfolio of graphic design or social media posts/reels created

Experience with Discord

Proficiency in Spanish
